Fay Porter’s long career as an artist has now found a place in the small New England town of Uralla. Trained at the National Art School, she has been a practising artist for over twenty five years, worked in publishing and art direction, and spent time teaching art at different levels.
Along the way her technical and creative skills as a practitioner have gone from strength to strength. With an extensive record of exhibiting, Porter’s work has been acquired by a number of public collections.
Porter executes her work in the small and, at times, the very small. Her craft is full of deliberate delicacy and understanding, at the same time ensuring that she pays respect to detail. In her hands, the landscape, and in particular the Australian countryside, become places of infinite beauty and energy. Each stroke and mark on the surface is placed with care, surety and dexterity. Porter understands her intimate surrounds, and she translates and transforms them for the viewer with elegance and strength.
